saturday morning joy

Last week Adam had to work nights and so every morning when the boys woke up he was gone, so finally on saturday when they woke up and he was there they were really excited! We had such a fun morning, we snuggled in bed and watched cartoons and adam wrestled on the floor with them. William can really hold his own, although he does use some cheap tactics, like pulling hair, biting and poking eyes=)

Little boy prayers and conversations

Noah has been talking so much more lately, which makes for some pretty hilarious conversations! Yesterday he was looking out our sliding glass door at some storm clouds coming in and he said:

"Oh hi thunderstorm, what you doing? Look at my granola bar, look, I take a bite!" (there has been a lot of talk about thunderstorms and "tor-ma-tos" lately...)

But the last couple days before bed he has been saying the most precious things. A couple nights ago this was our conversation (of course you have to imagine noah talking in his little boy language that mainly only adam and I can understand=):

noah: goodnight Jesus

mom: you dont' really have to say goodnight to Jesus because He is always with you

noah: .....I can't see Him?

mom: He is in your heart

noah: in my heart?! (grabbed his stomach) Get Him out of there! He needs to come out! I need to help Him!

mom: He wants to be in there, He lives in the hearts of everyone who loves Him, like mommy and daddy

noah: and william?

mom: yes

noah: and sammy?

mom: hmmm...sure (he's only two, I guess we'll get to that later=)

Then, today before his nap he prayed:

"Dear Jesus, thanks that we got to fill up the pool.....thanks for animals...thanks for big hippos...thanks for little hippos...thanks for lightning McQueen" =) at that point I think he was just looking around his room and naming things, I was cracking up.
It really is the little things!

More Pics.

http://www.z963.com/php/jc2.html

hmmm....getting pictures didn't work so well. I felt like a gawker and I'm not that great of a driver normally, let alone while trying to snap pictures=) so we just came home. it was really eerie though to get out and see some of the damage. I couldn't even get close to the major areas of damage, but still saw a lot of uprooted trees and debris, you could really tell right where the tornado passed through town. For more information and hopefully photos check out "Phinn's blog" to the right.
also great pics at
www.labrisaphoto.blogspot.com

just heard from a friend who made it out to look around a bit. apparently the True Value store "is no more" and she said there is a lot of damage around campus, so I guess I will wait to hear from Adam if there is any damage to the actual vet. school. Also, heard that one of the moms in my MOPS group was one of the families whose home was hit last night. Pray for the Paquette's and families like this with little kids who are trying to clean up today, I can't imagine... I'm thinking about trying to venture out after lunch and get some pics depending on how the boys are doing...

Hey, we're ok!

I've been getting a lot of calls and emails about the storm last night so I thought I would just do a post for concerned friends and family=) We're fine and our neighborhood is fine, there was a lot of damage here in town, or so I've heard (I haven't really been able to leave the house!) I will try and post more info when I get it and maybe some pictures! For now what I know is that there was a good amount of homes destroyed and a lot of damage to the K-state campus. Adam called me on his way to the clinic this morning and said that he was having trouble getting there because so many roads were closed through campus and he said that he saw several homes on the way with their roofs torn off. The campus is about 5 minutes driving time from our house! This was a little too close for comfort for me! We ended up taking both the boys under the bed in Noah's room, since we don't have a basement, and prayed a lot! Thankfully, these Kansans know how to track storms! We had our little TV in there with us and knew at all times exactly where the tornado (1/2 a mile wide!) was as it moved through our town. At one point they said it was on the ground at Bluemont Hill, which is honestly just a 2 or 3 minute drive from us, but from that point I think it lifted over us and then touched down again NE of us and continued on! I was talking to my neighbors this morning and they said that they went out right after it passed and, standing on their truck, could see it on the ground heading up towards the NE. Thank God for his protection and so far I haven't heard of any major injuries here in Manhattan, which is pretty amazing considering the damage! Will post more later....

new recipe to share

I just got this recipe from one of Adam's classmates and tried it out this weekend. They turned out really good, a little crunch on top and chewy in the center, yummy! And seeing as how I hail from the "pumpkin capital of the world", I thought this was a good one to have in my cookie repertoire=)

Pumpkin chocolate-chip cookies
1/2 C shortening
1 1/2 C sugar
1 egg
1 C canned pumpkin
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 C flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp ginger
1 C chocolate chips
1/2 C chopped walnutes or pecans

preheat oven to 350, grease cookie sheets.
In a large bowl, cream together sugar and shortening. Beat in egg, then pumpkin and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients, add gradually to the creamed mix. Stir in nuts and chocolate chips. Drop by spoonfulls on to cookie sheets (these cookies spread very little).
Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Noah is a really great eater, but sometimes he wants to eat things at really odd times! He had just woken up in this picture (as I'm sure you can tell because he looks like he just rolled out of bed) and he decided that he wanted a spinach salad with ranch dressing=)

noah's handiwork
